Japanese Paper and Bamboo Uchiwa Fan

This is a Japanese paper fan, or uchiwa. Uchiwa is a traditional fan tool typically made of wood or bamboo and paper in a flat paddle-like shape. It features a bright red camellia flower (tsubaki) with lush leaves. The image is printed on a white sheet on the back side, then a sheet of translucent washi paper was adhered to the front, giving it a frosted look. The handle has a decorative water ripple pattern.
