Japanese Lacquered Wooden Haribako Sewing Chest

This is a Japanese small storage chest, also called tansu. Coated with a striking deep reddish-brown lacquer in kamakurabori style, it is decorated with bold hand-carved circular motifs featuring bamboo with leaves and plum blossoms. It has four different sized drawers with simple metal hardware. This beautiful tansu chest can also be used for storing sewing supplies (haribako), jewelry, or other trinkets.
