Vtg Japanese Obijime Kimono Belt Accessory

This is a Japanese vintage obijime. A muted green color, this narrow and flat (hiragumi) style traditionally braided kumihimo cord is lightweight, flexible, and easy to tie. It has a smooth texture weave with no other accents or designs.

An obijime is a braided cord that wraps around the outside of the obi sash to keep it in shape. Because there are limitless colors, materials, and styles, they are often used as a decorative accent for kimonos in addition to their main function. Obijime is only used for women’s kimonos, not men’s kimonos.
