Vtg Japanese Obijime Kimono Belt Accessory

This is a Japanese vintage obijime. A magenta pink color, this wide and flat (hiragumi) style traditionally braided kumihimo cord is simple and flexible. There are light brown accents woven into the braids and big tassels at the ends.

An obijime is a braided cord that wraps around the outside of the obi sash to keep it in shape. Because there are limitless colors, materials, and styles, they are often used as a decorative accent for kimonos in addition to their main function. Obijime is only used for women’s kimonos, not men’s kimonos.
