Vtg Japanese Clay Rat Zodiac Decoration

This is a vintage Japanese clay figurine of a sitting rat. It is small and painted a soft beige with a golden shimmer top coat. There is a green felt pad on the bottom to protect surfaces from scratching.
Rats/mice, or nezumi, are one of the twelve signs of Japanese Zodiac (Junishi). There is a sign for each year and a full cycle is repeated after 12 years. It is common to display the year’s sign in the entrance or in the living room in Japan.
