Vintage Japanese Folding Fan Sensu

This is a traditional Japanese fan called sensu. You can use this when it’s hot or as decoration. It is sometimes used in traditional Japanese dance. It is gold and silver foil paper with both sides having stunning red plum blossoms (ume). The frame is lacquered black. The paper is secured with white string.
This type of fan is called maisen and is traditionally used by maiko and geisha for dancing. Likewise, shimaisen are similar in structure and are used in Noh or other traditional theatrical performances.
