Vintage Japanese Wooden Rice Paddle

This is a vintage Japanese wooden rice paddle, or shimoji. It is used to stir and serve rice, as well as mix other ingredients such as vinegar for sushi or other flavoring (furikake). This particular rice paddle is hand-carved and uniquely large, likely used in an industrial kitchen setting with large quantities of food.
