Vintage Japanese Ceramic Suiban for Ikebana Flower Arrangement

This is a vintage ceramic Japanese flower vase, or suiban. It is glazed a matte black. This suiban is large and round with simple metallic gold bands for decoration and balances on a small pedestal.
Suiban means “water tray” and typically houses the spiked weight (kenzan) that hold ikebana flower stems in place, but can also be used as a base for a flower pot, or even a potted bonsai.
