Antique Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Lacquer Offering Table　

This is an antique Japanese Buddhist altar offering table (Maejyoku). It is coated with gold, red, orange, and black lacquer. It contains a removable top piece and a plastic cover to protect the fragile top surface. It has a handcarved floral motif on the front side.
In the case of memorial services, a piece of cloth called Uchishiki is inserted between the base and top piece. There are two types of offering tables Maejyoku and Uwajyoku. Maejoku is placed in front of the Shumidan. It is used for 3 Gusoku (candle stand, flower vase, and incense burner). Uwajoku is placed in front of Amidanyorai. It is used for a flower vase, a rice cup, and a kasha incense burner.

• Good condition considering age. Discoloration of gold fittings. Top red surface has flaking red lacquer. Lacquer chips on edges. Some scratches and dents. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
