Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features calligraphy with two big Japanese characters. The calligraphy is written in a fan shape. Two characters are Suki, standing for a long life. The artist's name is Kumakichi Yamada and written on Showa 58, which is 1983. This piece is signed by the artist.  

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
